ISHPEMING - Emily Bertucci won all four events she entered to lead the Westwood girls swimming and diving team to a 107-76 season-opening victory over Kingsford at the Patriots pool on Tuesday afternoon.
The WHS boys didn't fare as well, losing 94-81 to the Flivvers despite a pair of individual event wins by Nathen Nelson and Josh Gosseck.
The difference in each meet came down to the relays, as the Patriot girls won all three of theirs while the Westwood boys lost in each of those races.
For the girls, Bertucci won two individual events - the 50- and 100-yard freestyle - while swimming a leg on the Patriots' victorious 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Teammates Miranda Roose, Faith LeRoy and Emma Taras all had a pair of relay victories, too.
All three were on the 200 medley relay, while Roose was also with the 400 freestyle and LeRoy and Taras on the 200 freestyle relays.
Westwood's Mya Maanika won diving while Helen Boburka took the 100 backstroke.
In the boys meet, Nelson won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Gosseck was a winner in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
Single wins were turned in by Jesse Olander in the diving, Nathan Pohlman in the 100 backstroke and Skyler Dakota in the 100 breaststroke.
