Shop local this season, support friends, neighbors

November 23, 2012
The Mining Journal

Today marks the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. Black Friday, as it is called, is when stores roll out the best bargains of the season. Shoppers lined up in chilly temperatures early this morning - or in some cases starting late last night - for a chance to save on Christmas gifts.

With the economy still in flux and challenges all around, who can blame them? Christmas comes but once a year and doing the most with the money one has to spend is what Black Friday is all about.

And that's why we once again want to ask residents to shop local, whether it's in a large department-type store or warehouse outlet or small mom and pop business, keeping your dollars here, in Superiorland, is so important. When you support local businesses, you support local jobs.

The bottom line this year is the same as it was last year: When you shop local, the job you save might be your own.
