To the Journal editor:
The holiday season is upon us. We are all out shopping for Christmas gifts for friends and family, and seasonal goods for ourselves. I just want to remind shoppers that trying on goods, then using your smart phone to take pictures, copy stock numbers, etc., and then going online to find a lower price is, at the very least, tacky. Here's why.
1. Operating a retail store is expensive. We could sell for less, too, if we operated out of a warehouse and employed minimum wage employees.
2. We support every good cause that comes through the door. How much does that Internet site donate to your local good causes?
3. We employ your sons and daughters and give them a chance to earn some money and learn some life skills.
4. Every dollar you spend in your local stores is respent over and over again, benefiting our community.
Keep your dollars local as much as you can. Try to remember that if you don't support your local businesses, they won't be there. Then you can wonder whatever happened to ____?
That's what happened to them. Leave your phone in your pocket where it belongs.
