November 18, 2012
The Mining Journal

GWINN - Gwinn High School was the first in Marquette and Alger counties to participate as an official College Application Week site during College Application Week, a nationwide initiative, Oct. 29-Nov. 2.

The goal of College Application Week is to give every high school senior the opportunity to apply to an educational institution beyond high school. In Gwinn, 81 seniors completed 118 applications to the colleges or postsecondary education programs of their choice. Students took part throughout the week in activities such as an online scavenger hunt and college BINGO to build enthusiasm and awareness of the college-going experience.

The event served as a pilot for Marquette Alger College Access Network which will build upon the success and lessons learned in Gwinn to support the week in additional schools next fall.
