Lempi Eliina Johnson

November 18, 2012
The Mining Journal

EBEN, MI - Lempi Eliina Johnson, age 97, entered eternal life on Wednesday evening, November 14, 2012, at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising, in the loving care of her family. She now joins her beloved husband, George, and son, Ray.

Born on August 9, 1915 in Eben, to Thomas and Lena (Hannula) Hallstrom, she grew up in Eben and attended school there through the 10th grade. Lempi married the love of her life, George Victor Johnson, on August 15, 1936 and they were married for 62 years. George and Lempi moved to Munising where they raised four children, Robert (Dolly) Johnson of Highland, CA, Raymond (Donna) Johnson who preceded her in death in 2005, June (Tom) Molohon of Sioux Falls, SD, and Rachel (Barry) Johnson of Eben. In 1969, they moved to Eben, years later moving to Snowberry in Marquette. They were lifelong members of Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Eben. George preceded her in death in 1998. Lempi was devoted to George and her family. She worked at the old Munising Hospital, cleaned for several people, cooked at Potter's Restaurant in Munising, and very proud, later in life, to become a nurse's aide at the Munising Memorial Hospital, mostly working in the nursery taking care of the babies, which she loved. Lempi was happiest at home, crafting, sewing, knitting, mending, gardening, and reading. But her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will miss her sweet smile and gentle ways.

Lempi is survived by her loving children, Bob, June, and Rachel; precious grandchildren, Shayne Johnson (Les) LaMarch, Trisha Johnson, Terry (Tiffany) Johnson, Todd, Thomas (Ian) and Tate Worthington, Aaron and Nathan Johnson; special great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Sierra, Nicholas, Andrew, Isabella, Tori, Tanner, Kayla, Jessie, Mara, Livia, Adriana, Ethan, Christian and Zane.
