When I was told I had to do physical therapy on my knee I was a little skeptical.
I had already gone through physical therapy for the knee once and I feel like it made things worse.
I would walk into therapy feeling fine and then leave limping. That was about six years ago.
I'm doing my current physical therapy at Bell Memorial Hospital and during the first appointment I expressed my concerns to the therapist. I was assured that if an exercise hurts, I should let them know and they won't make me continue with it - and this has been true.
I'm very impressed with the physical therapy I've been receiving at Bell. I haven't had very good experiences in the past, but I feel like this time it's really helping.
I feel as if my knee seems more stable and certain things that have been difficult in the past are becoming easier. I do have flare-ups every so often where it becomes difficult to walk around - or sleep. But whenever this happens, a note is made in my charts and if it's hurting when I come in they allow me to do a lighter load of exercises.
I don't know if things have changed in the way physical therapy is done over the past six years or if I just didn't go to the greatest place last time but I feel better this time around. Friday was supposed to be my last day of therapy but my therapists have asked me to extend it a couple more weeks with the flare-ups still happening.
I was told last week that they want to make sure that I no longer have knee pain -which would be nice. I've been living with knee pain for about 10 years now and if the therapists feel like they can rid of it I'm going to let them try - because I feel that I'm in very capable hands.
