Vandeschaaf brothers, Olson qualify for YMCA state championship meet

MARQUETTE - Twin brothers Carson and Colin Vanderschaaf, 7, of the Killer Whales qualified for the YMCA state championship meet in the 25-yard breaststroke Nov. 10 at the Ironwood Invitational held at Gogebic Community College. Carson edged his brother, going the distance in 24.66 seconds. Colin recorded a 24.94.

Also making the state cut for the YMCA of Marquette County was Archer Olson, 8, with a 19.67 in the 25 butterfly.

Other event winners for the Killer Whales were:

Kevin Beaghan, 11, (50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 free); Lauren Clement, 13, (500 free, 50 butterfly, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 free); Ann Desrochers, 12, (50 free); Ben Luke, 14, (50 backstroke, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle); Andrew Meyer, 15, (100 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle); and Tessa Meyer, 11, (50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 200 IM, 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle).

Also, Archer Olson, 8, (25 butterfly, 25 breaststroke, 25 freestyle); Antoni Olszewski, 14, (50 breaststroke); Ryszard Olszewski, 11, (500 freestyle); Julia Riser, 10, (50 breaststroke); Lauren Rotundo, 13, (50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle); Carson Vanderschaaf, 7, (25 breaststroke, 50 freestyle); Colin Vanderschaaf, 7, (25 backstroke); and Erin Vanderschaaf, 9, (50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle).

Medalists with a top 3 finish were: Gretchen Haggenmiller, Julia King, Chloe McParlan, Elijah McParlan, Samantha Olson.
