MUNISING, Mich. - Willard "Bill" H. Truckey, age 83, of 1000 E. Munising Avenue, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 4:31 a.m. at Munising Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 3, 1929 in Marquette to Willard and Siiri (Piirto) Truckey. Bill attended school at St. John's Elementary and St. Lawrence Seminary before graduating from Graveraet High School in 1948. He married Maryrene Armstrong at St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette on August 5, 1950. While living in Marquette, Bill worked for Cliff's Dow Chemical, he managed Walter Wylie Loan Company, he was an agent for Standard Oil, and was a self-taught and self-employed home builder and land developer.
In 1972, Bill, Maryrene and their daughter Debbie moved to Munising. They purchased the Sunset Motel and operated it together for fourteen years. After their retirement in 1986, they purchased a home on Powell Lake where they spent their summers and they spent their winters in Clearwater and Dade City, Florida. In 1995, they returned to Munising.

Bill was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a past member of the Moose Lodge. Bill and Maryrene enjoyed spending time together - they enjoyed a good time with family and friends, hunted for mushrooms and cranberry bogs in the woods, cooked together (Maryrene chopped and Bill created the masterpiece meal), and they were a favorite couple of the late Auctioneer Col. John Brown. Bill also liked to fish and he always cared for a huge garden.
He is survived by his loving wife of over sixty-years Mary rene of Munising; their daughter Deborah Servia of Neenah, grandchildren John (Ruth) Servia of Neenah, Joe (fiancee Kate Segula) Servia of Marquette, and Jayme Servia of Neenah; great-grandson Franklin Servia; brothers Bob (Dorothy) Truckey of Ishpeming, Jack (Ruth) Truckey of Sault Ste. Marie, and George (Sue) Truckey of Duluth, MN, sisters Mary Jean (Bob) Apple of Marquette and Barbara Truckey of St. John's, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Wiseman.
Services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 in Munising. There will be visiting time at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette at a later date.
