NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Gary E. Larson, 60, of 6 Forge Road, Negaunee Township, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at his home. He had been in ill health for several years.
Gary was born October 26, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., to Oscar E. and Lorraine M. (Babich) Larson, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1970 and attended Northern Michigan University. He lived most of his life in Negaunee Township. He worked for many years in the grocery business and most recently for The Mining Journal until problems with his health caused his retirement.
Gary enjoyed cooking, baking, and raising chickens. He loved animals, and enjoyed watching the wildlife in his yard. He was a Green Bay Packer fan.
Surviving are his father, Oscar E. Larson of Negaunee Township; 1 brother, Dan (JoAnn) Larson of Green Bay, Wis.; 1 sister, Dessalee (Greg) Strampe of Madison, Wis.; a nephew, Daniel Larson of Madison, Wis.; and a niece, Jenny Larson of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine M. Larson, on July 14, 2003.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Koskey Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles L. Tooman officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 PM at the funeral home on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS), formerly the Marquette County Humane Society, in Gary's memory.
