Lelia W. Betway

LA CROSSE, Wis./Marquette, Mich. - Lelia W. Betway went to be with her Lord and Savior. There she will join her husband, Fred, and infant daughter.

She passed on peacefully at 1:45 a.m. on November 10, 2012 in La Crosse, Wis., with her son and daughter in law at her side.

Lelia Robins was born on February 3, 1926, in Detroit, Mich. She spent most of her early years in the Petoskey, Michigan area. She married Fred Betway on August 20, 1946. She loved the outdoors, and spent over 50 years fishing, exploring Alaska, Canada, and her beloved Upper Peninsula; the Two Heart was their special place. She enjoyed cooking, and serving delicious meals around her beautiful centerpieces that she made with collected drift wood, plants, and flowers. She loved biking, cross country skiing, and long walks with her husband, Fred, and their many friends.

While living in the U.P they worshipped at Good News Assembly, Marquette Gospel Tabernacle, and Bethel Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband Fred, her parents, and a sister Lila and an infant daughter.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Jean) Betway, La Crosse, Wis.; her grandchildren, Tammy, Shannon of Alexandria, Va., Laura (Ken) and family of Minn., Shawn (Jennifer), Jeff (Angela), Sarah (Brian) of IL and Sharron (William) of Nevada; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She will always be remembered for her organizational skills.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bethel Baptist Church in Marquette on Tuesday, November 13, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, with Dr. Brian Oberg, pastor, officiating. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be made in Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church, 829 Grove Street, Marquette, Michigan 49855.
