Church collects shoe boxes for kids
HARVEY - Operation Christmas Child, OCC, will be collecting shoe boxes for children of third world countries from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17, and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 18 at Silver Creek Church, 219 Silver Creek Road in Harvey. Post 340 to mark Vets Day
HERMANSVILLE - The Floriano-Stecker American Legion Post 340 will observe Veterans Day at 11 a.m. Monday with a program at the Veterans Memorial Marker in Hermansville. A breakfast will be held at 10:15 a.m. at the American Legion Club room. At 10:45 a.m. there will be a march to the Veterans Memorial Marker and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Jerry Kelly, a past 340 Commander and Korean War veteran from Iron Mountain, will be the keynote speaker.

Watercolor workshop at MACC
MARQUETTE - Carl Mayer will host a three-day watercolor workshop from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center. The workshop will focus on watercolor painting Christmas cards and gifts for intermediate and advanced painters.

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University will host a Your Wealth series lecture titled "Canada's Incredible Turnaround: What the United States Can Learn from Its Northern Neighbor" at 3 p.m. Monday in Mead Auditorium, West Science Building.The lecture is free and open to the public.
NMU to stage 'Bears'
MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University's Forest Roberts Theatre will present the world premiere of "Bears," winner of the 2012 Panowski Playwriting Competition. Show times will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 17, along with a 1 p.m. matinee Saturday. Tickets cost $5 for NMU students with I.D. and $15 for the public, and are available at all NMU EZ Ticket outlets.
