Pair of Killer Whales records fall in Wisconsin

MARQUETTE - It's safe to say the the YMCA Killer Whales swim team turned in a banner performance Nov. 2-4 at the Fox Cities Invitational in Appleton, Wis.

The local team posted two team records, four more state qualifying swims and several event medalists.

No team scores we kept.

Local swimmers winning events were: Lauren Clement, 13, 1650-yard freestyle, 20:40.74; Rachel Mack, 17, 50 freestyle, 26.84; and Delaney Marchiol, 8, 100 IM in a state qualifying time of 1:38.52.

Also capturing event wins were Nathan Rotundo, 15, 1650 free, 19:56.39, Olivia Rouleau, 16, 100 butterfly, 1:07.74; and Sam Williams, 14, 200 breaststroke in a state qualifying time of 2:36.30.

In addition, Elina Zhang, 10 won the girls 100 backstroke with a time of 1:34.69.

Killer Whales earning medals for a top-3 finish were: Katy Beckstrom, 17 (50 freestyle, 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke); Clement (200 butterfly); Thomas Griffith, 11 (200 free); Mack (100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke); Marchiol (25 free, 25 breast, 50 free, 25 fly); and Lauren Rotundo, 13 (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke).

In addition, N. Rotundo (200 breaststroke); Rouleau (200 IM, 100 breaststroke, 200 free); Juan Schouten, 9 (100 backstroke); Colin Vanderschaaf, 7 (25 breaststroke); and Williams (50 free, 500 free team record/state qualifying 5:36.00, 200 butterfly, team record/state qualifying 2:27.13).

Also, Hannah Winn, 8 (100 butterfly, 25 free, 50 free, 25 butterfly, 25 backstroke); Jayme Winn, 10 (100 backstroke); and Zhang (100 breaststroke).
