NMU hosts Scouts

November 9, 2012
The Mining Journal

Northern Michigan University professor Jack Gumaer assists Scout Evan Sorensen while he is working on the electronics merit badge at the University of Scouting at NMU's Jacobetti Center recently. More than 100 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Ventures and adult leaders attended the event, which has been held annually since 2006. Older Boy Scouts had their choice of 14 different sessions to earn a merit badge, many of which were in science and technology like robotics, electronics, or welding. New Boy Scouts passed requirements on basic Scout skills like knot tying, Webelos scouts earned the citizen and readyman activity pins, leaders participated in adult training and Venture Scouts helped with instruction. For more information on Boy Scout programs in the area, visit the Bay Lakes Council website at www.baylakesbsa.org and go to the Hiawathaland District page.
