NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Raymond J. Neely, 90, lifelong Negaunee resident, died suddenly on Friday, November 2, 2012, in Monroe, Wis., where he recently moved to be closer to his daughter.
Ray was born May 30, 1922 in Negaunee to James and Florence (Letcher) Neely, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1940, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. Following graduation, Mr. Neely enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II.
Ray owned and operated Neely's Lumber and Supply Co. in downtown Negaunee from 1955-1980. He served on the First National Bank of Negaunee's Board of Directors from 1962-1993. He also served on the Building Committee for the Negaunee Senior Center, was a member of the Negaunee Lions Club, and belonged to V.A. Romo Post #3165 V.F.W., Negaunee.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, A. Joyce (Wangberg) Neely of Negaunee; son, Dennis (Mary Kay Morgan) Neely of Henderson, Nev.; daughter, Jill (Jim) Bidlingmaier of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren: Kelly and Ross Bidlingmaier. Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Lenten officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church, Negaunee, and the Negaunee Senior Center in Ray's memory.
