SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Sue Weldean Skutley, age 71, of 200 Taylor Road, Sands Township, entered eternal life Monday morning, November 5, 2012, in the Hospice Suite located at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving, comforting care of her family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.
Born February 21, 1941 in Amarillo, Texas, a daughter of Weldon and Mary Beth (Reinhart) Teague, Sue was raised in Amarillo and later graduated from high school in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1958. On February 20, 1960, Sue married Ronald N. Skutley in Cordell, Oklahoma, where Ron was serving in the U.S. Air Force. During the next few years, Ron was stationed overseas and in Vietnam, and Sue lived with her father and stepmother in Amarillo. When Ron was transferred to K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in 1978, he and Sue established their home in Sands Township. For many years, Sue was the cheerful, helpful, and dependable clerk at the Lighthouse Christian Bookstore. During that time, she was a member of the Harvey Baptist Church where, over the years, she served as music director, soloist, and Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies and special interests included collecting Precious Moments figurines, scrapbooking, a love of music and animals. She was organized with attention to detail, always striving for perfection in whatever task she was committed to. Sometimes those tasks were hard, but she stuck to it. Sue was also well known for her thoughtfulness in sending greeting cards to people for various occasions. She often included personal notes and emphasis highlights and, even now, there are several cards preaddressed to friends. She was always thinking of others. Sue was currently a member of the Northpoint Baptist Fellowship, serving as treasurer, music director, and Sunday School teacher. She had also served as treasurer for the UP Baptist Association for many years.
Sue is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ronald; a daughter, Susan "Denice" (Darren) Bridges of Sulphur Springs, TX; her sister, Sylvia (Richard) McBrayer of Sulphur Springs, TX; and nephews, Gordon (Carla) and Craig McBrayer. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joshua Bridges; and a niece, Lori.
