ESCANABA - Rapid River senior Averi Kanyuh enjoyed a stellar volleyball season and was selected Most Valuable Player in the Central U.P. Conference Friday during the annual meeting of the league's coaches.
Carney-Nadeau junior Janel Dani was a unanimous first-team pick in the CUP. Joining her on the first team are Bark River-Harris senior Sarah Madalinski, Mid Peninsula senior Krysta VanDamme, Munising senior Jenna Hach, Rapid River senior Neena Brockway and Superior Central seniors Kelsey Coleman and Lindsey Richmond.
Munising's Katie Immel was a unanimous second-team selection. Also landing berths were BR-H's Mariah St. John, Big Bay de Noc's Rachel Leckson, Carney's Andrea Dani, Mid Pen's Kelsie Nummilien and North Central's Paige Whitens.
Receiving honorable mention were Big Bay's Lois Ranguette, Carney's Autam Wery, North Central's Morgan Wells, Rapid River's Savannah Stenlund, Rikki Stropich and Kristy Kerstner and Superior Central's Vanessa Freberg and Mikayla Barrows.
Carney's Ali Theoret received the individual sportsmanship award, with Munising gaining the team sportsmanship award.
Superior Central, BR-H and Rapid River shared the league's varsity title at 11-3. BR-H was crowned jayvee champion at 13-1, with Big Bay runner-up at 11-3.
