MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University's women cross country runners finished eighth Saturday at the NCAA II Midwest Regional Championships held in Kenosha, Wis.
The Wildcats finished with 245 points. Winner Grand Valley State University totaled 45.
Junior Mallory Celaya led the NMU effort by placing 34th in the 6-kilometer run with a time of 22 minutes and 23 seconds. Teammate and freshman Mary Kate Cirelli came in 47th (22:40), junior Mandy Dye 50th (22:42), sophomore Larissa Halonen 54th (22:50) and sophomore Katie Granquist of Powers 60th (22:55).
Allyson Winchester of GVSU placed first in 20:57.
The Michigan Tech University women finished 20th with 565 points. Senior Amanda Halonen paced the Huskies with a 52nd (22:48)
The Tech men, meanwhile, came in 13th with 402 points behind champion GVSU, which posted 62.
Sophomore Eric Parcell led the Huskies with a 32:40 clocking in the 10-K race, good for 67th place. Matt Brooker of Cedarville (Ohio) University took top honors in 30:35.
