ISHPEMING, MI - Doris L. Rodda, age 90, longtime resident of 672 Elliott Ave. passed away at 7:53am on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Doris was born July 17, 1922 in Alpha, MI the daughter of the late Henry and Lily (Vassar) Johnson. She grew up in Alpha until her high school years when the family moved to Iron River, graduating from the Iron River High School, Class of 1940. Doris lived in Two Rivers, WI during the War years, working in the office of an electric factory which was meeting the needs of the war effort. Doris married Robert Rodda on August 19, 1945 and they resided in Iron River until 1954, when they came to Ishpeming for work. Together they raised their family in Ishpeming, Doris as a homemaker tending to the needs of her family.
Doris was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where she had been active as a Eucharistic Minister, and member of the ladies guild. Doris enjoyed bowling for many years at the Miracle Bowl in Ishpeming where she had been a league bowler. She would often be found in the kitchen baking for her family or passing time knitting or crocheting.
Doris is survived by two sons Keith Rodda and special friend Sara Hawley of Middleton, WI and David J. (Patricia D.) Rodda of Marquette, 3 grandchildren April Mattix of Fairfax, VA, Kristi Rodda and special friend Tim French of McMinnville, OR and Andrew Rodda of Milwaukee, WI. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert Rodda in 1995 and a brother Kenneth Johnson.
Honoring Doris' wishes cremation has taken place, with a memorial service to be held at a later date at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming, inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for their kindness and care of Doris the past 18 months.
