Ernestine L. McCarthy

MARQUETTE, MI - Ernestine L. McCarthy, age 92, of Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had been living.

Born June 24, 1920 in Marquette, a daughter of Frank and Marie (Parent) Versailles, Ernestine was a lifelong area resident. Her hobbies and interests centered around her family, a love of playing bridge, and knitting for family and friends. She was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn and currently a member of St. Michael Parish in Marquette.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Ron) Walker of Marquette; sons, Dennis McCarthy of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Bob (Kristine) McCarthy of Marietta, GA, Rick (Joan) McCarthy of Marquette, and Dave (Dahlia) McCarthy of Aliso Viejo, CA; her grandchildren, Rhonda Winter, Dennis Walker, Colleen Sova, Louise Jakobsen, Kevin,Vincent, Melissa, Jason, Ericka, Matthew, Michelle, and Shannon McCarthy; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Cecelia (Clyde) Legacy, Lucina Hawke, Jeanette Carlson, and Marlene (Bob) Bell; a brother, John (Barbara) Versailles; a sister-in- law, Gloria Versailles; brother-in-law, Art Aartilla; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent McCarthy; sister, Donna Aartilla; and brother, Jim Versailles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Catholic Church on Monday, November 5, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. Rev. Larry Van Damme will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon and a reception will follow in the St. Michael Parish Center. Ernestine's family will serve as escorts. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Activity Fund at the Norlite Nursing Center, 701 Homestead Street, Marquette, MI 49855 or St. Michael Catholic Church, 401 W. Kaye Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
