MARQUETTE - Last minute pumpkins can still be bought for carving just in time for Halloween.

The Pumpkin Patch, located in the Westwood Mall parking lot, still has a lot of pumpkins to choose from. The Pumpkin Patch offers jack-o-lanterns, gourds, mini pumpkins and pie pumpkins. What type of pumpkin someone needs depends on what they are using it for.

"If you're carving a pumpkin you're going to want to pick out a pumpkin that doesn't have any rotted spots and has a good face," said Chris Secord, salesman at The Pumpkin Patch.

The jack-o-lanterns are perfect for carving or making baked seeds and come in many different sizes. The gourds are mostly for decoration, Secord said.

"Technically, the mini pumpkins are gourds too, so they aren't for eating either," he said. "But some people like to buy them so they can paint them."

Pie pumpkins are used for exactly what they are named for, making pies. According to Secord, the pie pumpkins have a sweeter taste.

"The jack-o-lanterns really aren't for making pie because they aren't as sweet," he said.

The Pumpkin Patch will be selling pumpkins up until 5 p.m. today. Carving kits and stencils are also available for purchase.
