To the Journal editor:
I have been the state representative for the 109th District for the last six years. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the constituents of my district to the best of my ability.
Due to term limits, the voters now have the opportunity next Tuesday to choose my replacement.
I encourage the voters to choose John Kivela. I first met John over 25 years ago when he was a student at Marquette Senior High School. Since that time, John has been actively involved in many aspects of community service in our area.
He has served on Marquette's Board of Zoning Appeals, as a city commissioner and has been the mayor of the city of Marquette for the past four years.
In these roles he has demonstrated strong leadership skills, hard work, and the ability to bring people together to work for the betterment of Marquette and the surrounding area.
The 109th District and the Upper Peninsula need a strong voice in Lansing. John's work ethic, consensus building skills, and genuine concern for all the people of the U.P. will be that voice.
Please join me in voting for John Kivela next Tuesday.
