To the Journal editor:
The voters of the 109th House District gave me the privilege of representing them in Lansing for three terms. It was a responsibility I took very seriously.
Due to term limits this seat is now open again. I am supporting John Kivela for state representative. John has done an outstanding job leading the city of Marquette through some difficult times. He has demonstrated the ability to bring people together to resolve issues.
He is a thoughtful, hard working public servant who will bring real Upper Peninsula common sense to the capitol. Under John's leadership. Marquette's infrastructure and economic base are in great shape in a time when many local governments have been struggling.
One party, the Republicans, has controlled all the levers of power in Lansing since the last election. If our capitol is truly broken, why would we send one more Republican to fix it? They have passed a tax on pensions, slashed the earned income tax credit that helped the working poor and cut money out of our education fund all to provide a huge tax break to corporations.
Let's send someone to Lansing with a proven record of getting positive things done for people. Send John Kivela.
