OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - Lula Lawrence, age 96, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and formerly of Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at her home, in the loving care of her family and the caregivers of Aurora Hospice.

Born May 1, 1916 in Ishpeming, the daughter of Elias and Suoma (Rahko) Laakko, Lula was raised in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1934. Following her marriage to Harold Lawrence in 1939, the couple moved to Marquette where they established their home and, throughout the years, resided in several locations. Lula was employed with the J.C. Penney Company for over 26 years and retired in 1981. A resident of Marquette for over 70 years, Lula had resided in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, with her son and daughter-in-law, for the past three years. Lula was a natural born artist and her talents ranged from pencil sketches and drawings, rosemaling, to painting, and she was extremely skilled. Her talented side, however, slowed during her years of being a wife, mother, and homemaker. Lula's other passions centered on craftwork and, for a time, she taught crafts at the Senior Center, creating master plans for those participating. She was also involved in an exercise class for older women. She appreciated art, enjoyed traveling with her husband, Harold, during their retirement years, and loved a good game of cribbage.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Lawrence of Nashville, Tenn.; sons, Gerald (Mary) Lawrence of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Michael (Jan) Lawrence of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 2003; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and June Lawrence; and three brothers.
