MARQUETTE, Mich. - Elizabeth "Tish" Stephenson, age 74 of 1004 Allouez Road, Marquette, passed away Monday morning, October 22, 2012 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming. She had been a resident there for several years during her long term battle with Alzheimers Disease.
Tish was born March 26, 1938 in Mount Vernon, New York, the daughter of James Russell and Ida (Blackman) Lyttle. Raised in Scarsdale, N.Y., and graduated from the Emma Willard school in Troy, N.Y. Tish attended the University of Michigan, where she met her husband John "Jack" Stephenson. The couple married on October 11, 1958 in Scarsdale, N.Y. They established their home in Marquette, where they raised their children and were active members in the community.
Tish was impassioned with the beauty of the Upper Peninsula, the woods, Lake Superior, and the snow. In addition to being a homemaker she completed her education at Northern Michigan University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1976. Tish enjoyed music, reading, knitting and playing the piano. She was also an avid bridge player participated in local bridge clubs for many years. During retirement, Jack and Tish spent the winters playing golf and bridge in Ocala, Florida. Summers were spent enjoying the U.P. and her grandchildren. She had a deep love for her family and friends.

Tish is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack; her children, Bruce (Sharon) Stephenson of Gladstone, Nancy (Brad) Byrne of Ewen, and John Russell Stephenson; grandchildren, Jack, Katie, Elizabeth, Abigail and Stacy Stephenson, Nicholas, Garrett, and Kelsey Byrne; sister, Leslie Whisler of Kirtland, Ohio; and several special friends from her bridge club.
Services will be held at a later date.
