MARQUETTE - Competing in the Mequon (Wis.) Fall Cup tournament, the Superiorland Soccer Association's Marquette U12 Red Bulls placed third.
In Game 1, the Red Bulls lost to the Menasha (Wis.) Adrenaline, 2-0, allowing a goal in each half. Trevor Salmon played in net for Marquette the first half and Nicolaas Varmaat the second half.
In Game 2, the Red Bulls beat Washington County (Wis.), 4-0.
In the first half, Salmon scored, then teammate Tylor Thiel-Robinson notched a goal off a cross pass from Salmon to make it 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, Salmon struck again with an assist from Evan Phillips, who then put one in himself off a pass from Salmon three minutes later.
Soren Higgins and Vermaat shared the shutout in goal for the Red Bulls, with help from defensive stalwarts Hunter Sides, Drew Wyble and Erik Salminen.
In game 3, the Red Bulls beat the Arlington (Ill.) Aces, 2-0. Higgins and Vermaat again combined for the shutout in net.
In the second half, the Red Bulls got back-to-back goals just over one minute apart from Michael Verlinden and Wyble. Salmon drew an assist.
In the final tournament game, the Red Bulls played eventual tournament winner Milwaukee United to a 2-2 tie.
Milwaukee held a 2-0 second half lead. With three minutes left, Salmon scored off a corner kick by Wyble, then Brendon McCoy poked the ball past the keeper to gain the tie.
The Red Bulls wound up in fourth place in the entire age group out of 11 teams. The team, which finished 4-1-1 on the fall season, is coached by Dan Salmon and Steve McCoy.
