MARQUETTE - The Marquette Red Bulls Under-12 youth soccer team shut out the visiting Bayside Sharpshins of Escanaba 6-0 on Saturday at the Beaver Grove soccer field.

The Superiorland Soccer Association team used a shutdown defense, anchored by Evan Phillips, Drew Wyble and Hunter Sides, to allow Bayside just one shot on goal at Red Bulls goalkeepers Nicolaas Vermaat and Soren Higgins.

Brendan McCoy scored Marquette's first goal with an assist going to Wyble, while Trevor Salmon made it 2-0 at halftime with a McCoy assist.

In the second half, Salmon scored twice, one assisted by Michael Verlinden; Vermaat had an unassisted goal; and McCoy scored again with assists going to Phillips and Salmon; and Phillips got the final goal with an assist going to Sides.

The Red Bulls wrap up their fall season with a trip to Mequon, Wis., for a tournament this weekend.
