NEGAUNEE, Mich. - William A. McDonnell, 85, of 200 E. Main St., Negaunee, died at 8:45 AM on Monday, October 15, 2012, at his home under the care of his loving family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Bill was born April 17, 1927, in Negaunee to Angus and Virginia (Mahoney) McDonnell, was a graduate of Negaunee St. Paul High School, Class of 1945, and was a lifelong resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having been stationed in Japan where he met his wife. Following his service to his country he worked as a lab technician for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring in 1987 with 34 years of service with the company.
Mr. McDonnell was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a life member of the V.A. Romo Post #3165 V.F.W., Negaunee. He was an avid sports fan and in his younger days was in the local horseshoe and bowling leagues.
Survivng are his wife of 61 years, Miyoko "Bunny" McDonnell; 1 son, Michael James (Jo) McDonnell of Negaunee Township; 1 daughter, Kathleen (John Symons) McDonnell of Negaunee; 2 grandchildren, Amy (John) Duquette of Ishpeming Township, Macy Jo McDonnell of Negaunee Township; 1 great-grandson Emmett Duquette; several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the Koskey Funeral Home with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 PM until the time of services at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the Koskey Funeral Home.
