NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Lois E. Toms, 98, formerly of Birch St., Negaunee, died at 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had resided since October of 2007.
Lois was born January 21, 1914, in Negaunee to George & Emma Curnow, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, and was a lifelong resident. She attended and was a graduate of the Marquette Beauty Academy. She worked as a cosmetologist and beauty operator for the Cameo Shop in Ishpeming. She also worked as a sales clerk at Goldie's of Ishpeming for a number of years.
Mrs. Toms was a lifetime member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, Negaunee. She treasured every moment with her loved ones, even just for a chat with them. She valued and often reflected on her early years of antiquing trips with her husband Russ and their close friends. She loved admiring the view from her home of sunsets over Teal Lake and the annual bloom of her rhododendrons.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and William Palm of Skandia; 3 grandsons: Steve (Bonnie Hoff) Palm of Skandia, Rich (Candi) Palm of Gwinn, Jim Palm of Marquette; 5 great-grandchildren: Amy Palm (Sam) Beauchamp, Mark, Mike, Ryan and Danielle Palm; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell H. Toms in 1983; a brother, Earl Allen, and a sister, Audrey Robare.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the Koskey Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. Interment will be in Northland Chapel Gardens. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM at the Koskey Funeral Home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mitchell United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association in Mrs. Toms' memory.
