MARQUETT - Synergy Fitness LLC, is the parent company of Synergy Fitness (formerly Ringside Fitness), a full service health club focusing on premiere fitness services and AdvantEdge Training, the premiere sports training facility in the region. With these complementary strengths, it's no wonder both companies have combined into one business.
"The idea behind merging the two companies is to bring the best of both companies together," said co-owner Brian Claus. "The name literally means STRONGER TOGETHER which is the reason that we joined forces. We felt that we could better meet the health and fitness needs of the community by combining our facilities and our resources."
"After the companies merged, we wanted a name that better describes our company and the downtown fitness facility," said co-owner Megan Dixon. Synergy Fitness was born.
Synergy Fitness, formally Ringside Fitness, offers a variety of workout machines as well as over 30 fitness classes that are included in the membership fee.
Synergy Fitness, has two facilities and two unique offerings. The downtown Marquette location (Synergy Fitness) is well-suited for the business professional looking for a high quality health club atmosphere and the warehouse facility (AdvantEdge) is geared towards serious athletic performance.
"I think one of the things that make this company stand out is the variety of expertise we have to offer," Claus said. "We have professionals specializing in sports medicine, athletic performance, personal training, and fitness."
For example, personal trainer Laura Amenson is the only Level Two Functional Movement Screen (FMS) expert in the Upper Peninsula. The FMS looks at movements to pinpoint weak links, and then correct them.
"As a result, the individual will experience greater movement efficiency, leading to improved quality of life and decreased injury potential. We use Laura's expertise and the FMS as one of many evaluation tools for tailoring a program to meet specific needs of the client," Claus said. "Another unique aspect of Synergy is our working relationship with healthcare professionals. We collaborate with local physicians, physical therapists and registered dietitians to provide our members and clients with coordinated specialized services.
"We all work together, so when you become a member here or you sign up for personal training, you're getting more than just a membership or a one-on-one trainer, you're getting an entire team of professionals looking out for your health."
Included in the Synergy Fitness membership is over 30 fitness classes offered throughout the week including a variety of Les Mills classes. According to Claus, "Les Mills is the industry leader in group fitness. Our instructors invest a great deal of time and energy into perfecting their craft and producing such a superior product. Instructors go through rigorous training and evaluation to become certified."
"In a nutshell, they are expertly choreographed, high energy classes that are updated every couple months to make fitness fun," said Dixon.
Synergy Fitness is not a franchise or large non-profit. It is a locally owned and operated business. This independence allows Synergy Fitness provide unique atmosphere, premium programing and specialized services that the owners and members what to see in the community.
"A high percentage of the members are women between the ages of 35 and 60 years old," Dixon said. "People always comment about how they feel comfortable, welcomed and how they don't feel the need to look like a supermodel here in their yoga pants to come and workout."
"We are competitively priced but offer a premium experience," Claus said.
Yearly memberships are only $588, which comes out to about $49 a month. There is also a monthly billing option that costs $59 a month.
AdvantEdge Training, also under the Synergy Fitness LLC umbrella, has an all together different look and feel than the comfortable downtown location. AdvantEdge has always been known for its athletic performance enhancement programs. "The Warehouse", as it's affectionately known is sparse in creature comforts but rich in motivation and results.
AdvantEdge has been known since its inception for its involvement in local athletics programs and the owners and staff have a great deal of pride based on the historical results with those programs - two state hockey championships and several trips deep into the high school football playoffs, not to mention the numerous college athletic scholarships earned through the hard work and dedication of its athletes, AdvantEdge owners and staff have much to be proud of.
"When athletes like Mark Olver of the Colorado Avalanche and Justin Florek 2010 NHL draft pick make AdvantEdge their training facility of choice, it makes me smile," said Claus. "These guys can train anywhere they want in the country and they choose to train with us. That says a lot."
AdvantEdge is managed by Dan Grille, a standout athlete in hockey at both the junior and college levels. Its training programs are designed by Dustin Brancheau, a performance enhancement specialist and former NMU football standout.
"Dan and Dustin are a great team," said Claus. "I have been impressed with their drive and determination to continue to make AdvantEdge the premiere performance training system in the Upper Peninsula."
Recently, AdvantEdge added another dimension to its already diverse programming. Dana Skytta, a nationally ranked Strongman leads the AdvantEdge STRONG Club, where he offers strongman training. With five unique workouts a week, this one-of-a-kind training offers all the benefits of a structured strength and power program along with coaching in a variety of strongman exercises that challenge even the most experienced athlete. The AdvantEdge STRONG club welcomes everyone, with current members ranging in age from 19-62. Anyone looking for an intense structured workout that challenges them to reach new levels of strength and endurance and confidence should check out this fun and unique program. The cost is only $100 per month.
