To the Journal editor:
On Oct. 5, the Detroit Westside Christian Academy traveled seven hours to compete against the Gwinn Modeltowners at McCormick Field.
Stemming from this experience, our district would like to thank the Detroit Christian Academy for many things.
First, we would like to thank their school for partnering with us because this helped us provide our student-athletes a complete nine game football schedule. This was extremely important to our athletic department in our continued commitment of giving our kids the very best that we can offer.
Secondly, we'd like to thank Detroit for supporting our local businesses such as the Model Town Inn, the American Legion, Rodney's Pizzeria and Subway.
We live in a wonderful giving community because each of the listed businesses provided some form of help to make the visit positive for each school.
Last but not least, we'd like to thank the Academy for their Christian values demonstrated at all times and sportsmanship shown on and off the field.
Seeing them support a teammate's mother who is a cancer survivor, helping teammates and our athletes up after each play and the comradery shown after the game, I think it's safe to say that friendships were formed for a lifetime.
So, on behalf of our entire community, I say thank you Detroit for this extremely positive experience. You are a class act.
