Ellenor M. Soulliere

The Mining Journal

McFARLAND, MI - Ellenor M. Soulliere, age 90, of 3897 County Road 444, McFarland, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, October 10, 2012, at the Norlite Nursing Center.

Ellenor was born June 24, 1922 in Beaver, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Loveless) Peterson. When she was a year old, the family relocated to McFarland where Ellenor spent her childhood. On November 2, 1941, Ellenor married Basil Soulliere and together the couple set up their home in Marquette's Trowbridge Park and raised their children there. In 1974, Ellenor and Basil moved to reside in McFarland. Ellenor loved living in the country, watching her grandchildren play in her yard and feeding the animals that frequented the area. Her love of animals even extended to her habit of capturing intruding spiders with a Kleenex and releasing them outdoors, rather than killing them. Everyone liked her smile and the way her eyes would light up when she greeted you. She was kind and generous, always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed it. She did, however, possess a feisty side, being a person who spoke her mind and called things as they were. Her leisure time activities also included spending time with her family, playing cribbage, fishing, camping, hunting (in younger years), going to the casino, and waiting for those special Tuesdays when daughter, Charlotte, would take her to bingo. She relished the days in McFarland, feeling an extra measure of well-being with family living nearby, a place she treasured with family and friends, and a place to enjoy an occasional beer with tomato juice.

Ellenor is survived by her daugthers, Charlotte (Leonard) Garrow of McFarland and Mary (Allan) Malmborg of Ishpeming; five grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Ledgerwood of McFarland, Kurt (Crystal) Garrow of Skandia, Rebecca (Brian) Roberts of McFarland, Ellenor (Dean) Stephens and Peggy Baron both of Ishpeming; twelve great- grandchildren, Taylor, Marissa, Shelby, Grant, Briceson, David, Chelsea, Daniel, Emily, Chloe, Tyler, Sierra, and Scott: a great great- grandchild, Wesley Baron; sister-in-law, Toni Peterson of Skandia; many nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ellenor was preceded in death by her husband, Basil; her son, David Soulliere; grandson, Scott Malmborg; great-granddaughter, Mary Beth Saxton; her siblings, Lloyd, Charles, Spencer, Keith, and Delores; sister-in-law, Ida "Bubbles" Peterson; and a close aunt and uncle, Lillian Fuller and Harold Loveless.
