ISHPEMING - Brad Waters poured in 35 points for Sodergren's Septic to claim top scoring honors on opening night of the Ishpeming City Basketball League on Sunday.
His team defeated Martin's Sports Apparel 85-52 in a Class A game as teammate Brandon Lawson also scored 31 points. Martin's Danny Hurrell put in 16 points.
In another Class A game, Tino's Bar and Pizza downed Bell Forest Products 67-57 as the winners' Kevin Moyer scored 20 points and Bell's Tony Marietti had 18.
The Negaunee Miners girls varsity tennis team was named co-champions at the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Division 1 finals held last week in Marquette. In interdivision games, Class A Meyer Family Vision flew past Class B Jeff's Glass, 74-40. Harley Clickner had 22 points for Meyer and Andy Zambon 15 for Jeff's. In addition, Class A Buck's Sub Shop clipped Class B Culver's, 73-54, as the winners' Dan Radcliffe put in 32 points and Culver's Andy Flanigan scored 20.
In Class B, GMP CPAs outscored Jubilee Foods, 108-48. Jeremy Nelson scored 27 points and Eric Lindsey 25 for GMP, while Chad Hewitt had 21 for Jubilee.
And Ramada of Marquette slipped past Holiday Gas Station, 68-49, as Matt Nord scored 17 points and Jody Nurmi 16 for Holiday.
