MARQUETTE - An approximately 1,000-square-foot brush fire off of Forestville Road in Marquette Township appears to have been started by a methamphetamine cook gone wrong, according to the Michigan State Police.

The Marquette Township Fire Department was originally called to the scene for a reported brushfire. The department requested assistance from state police at the Negaunee post at approximately 8:10 a.m. Friday after locating meth production components upon their arrival to the fire scene.

An MSP meth clean-up team responded and secured the components and other hazardous materials also located at the scene.

Police have no suspects at this time. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Jackie Stark can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 242. Her email address is jstark@miningjournal.net.
