MENOMINEE, Mich. - Alvin Beyer, 86, of Menominee, Mich. passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Menominee Care Center. He was born on April 28, 1926 in Menominee to the late Antone and Martha (Spitzer) Beyer and grew up in the Greenwoods area. Alvin graduated from Stephenson High School class of 1944 and attended Agricultural Short Course at Michigan State University shortly after graduation. Alvin married Katherine Moker on October 25 1947 and they settled north of Menominee to raise their family. Alvin called a number of different places "home" throughout his life including Marquette, Mich; Arizona; Zephyrhills, Florida; Hawaii and Menominee. Alvin pursued a number of occupations over the years including farming, refrigeration and appliance repair, vocational skills instructor at NMU and farm foreman at Marquette Branch Prison. Alvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and woodworking. He was well known for his candlesticks and lamps.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine, of 65 years; two daughters, Linda (Stephen) Dupras of Marquette, Mich., and Kathy (Tom) Welch of Kapolei, Hawaii; three sons, Wayne (Carol) Beyer of Menominee, Mich., Thomas (Lori) Beyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Patrick (Robin) Beyer of Marquette, Mich; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is further survived by three sisters, Adeline Barth of Minneapolis, Minn., Jane (John) Koehn of Mesa, Ariz., and Ruth (Richard) Minue of Menominee Falls, Wis.; two brothers, David (Ellen) Beyer of Oconto, Wis., and Kenneth (Judy) Beyer of Marinette, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tonya Beyer, and a brother-in-law, Robert Barth.
Family and friends may call to the Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Monday, October 8, 2012, from 4 p.m. until time of parish prayers at 6 p.m. Deacon Vincent Beckley will officiate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Alvin on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish in Menominee. Friends may gather at the church just prior to the Mass. Fr. Michael Chenier will officiate. Burial will be in the Birch Creek Cemetery.
Alvin's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Post, the Menominee Care staff and Marquette General Home Health & Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
Alvin's family is requesting that any expression of sympathy and kindness be directed towards a memorial fund that has been established in his name.
