MARQUETTE - The new Upper Peninsula Football Association United boys Under-12 team won its first tournament, going 4-0 to win the division title in Appleton, Wis., on Sept. 22-23.
The UPFA United team includes the top players from the UPFA league. Combined teams are run under the coaching and direction of the Marquette Soccer Academy. Head coach Chris Toolen said he was impressed with his young squad.
"It's a great way to kick start our UPFA United program, and we are looking forward to launching several new select teams next spring," Toolen said.

The victorious team included Marquette residents Liam Darr, Raffy Millado, Aaron Pap, John Paul Skendzel, Garrett Zueger and Ben Loznak; along with two boys each from Houghton and Dollar Bay.
The team defeated PCYS Arsenal 2-1, Wisconsin Rapids Kickers-SUL 3-1 and Neenah Nitro 4-1. They completed their sweep with a 3-1 victory over MC United MCU Lampkin 3-1 to clinch the championship.
