GWINN, Mich. - James Leslie Korpi, Jr., 45, of 934 W. Tapiola St., Gwinn, died unexpectedly Monday morning, September 24, 2012, after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Jim was born July 10, 1967, in Marquette at St. Luke's Hospital to James L. Korpi, Sr. and Patricia M. (Foeller) Korpi. He and his family lived in Lantana, Florida for 20 years where he graduated from high school, moved back to this area and has been a resident since 1990.
Jim worked as a self-employed contactor for his family's business, Korpi Construction. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union for the past 20 years and enjoyed working in the trades. He also worked at Cobo Hall in Detroit for the annual car show, helping with the set-up and take-down. Jim loved fishing, hunting, and working with his dad.
Surviving are his parents, James and Patricia Korpi of Suomi Location; 1 brother, Michael (Colleen) Korpi of Hartland, WI; 2 sisters: Carol (John) McKinley of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Margaret Korpi of Ishpeming; a niece, Alyzandra Hollinshead of Ishpeming, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Palmer, with Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Bakkala Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at the church on Thursday, and also at a reception following the mass at the Palmer Fire Hall.
