NEGAUNEE - The Negaunee High School girls tennis team played visiting Marquette to a 4-4 tie Tuesday.
The two teams played to their strengths, with the Miners winning all four singles matches and the Redettes sweeping doubles play.
Abbi Kill led Negaunee in singles action with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Maddy Gardner at No. 1.
Allison Carlson at No. 2, Kayla Hakala at No. 3 and Dana DeBretto at No. 4 also claimed singles wins for the Miners, all in straight sets.
Kate Garrow and Sam Schwemin led the Marquette assault in doubles with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 1 over Ashley Anderson and Mandi Grasso.
The Redettes needed three sets in each of the next three flights to sweep the Miners. Laura Slavsky and Madalyne Connon at No. 2, Taylor Rovin and Brianna Buhl at No. 3, and Mackenzie Verbeke and Danielle Nestor at No. 4 turned the trick.
Slavsky and Connon needed a third set tiebreaker to win 7-6 (5) over Amanda Washnock and Jessa Johnson.
