MARQUETTE - You can't start a season much better.
The Marquette American Legion Bantam AA hockey team captured the Chicago Cup Series Preseason Tournament with a 2-1 win on Sept. 23 over Mississauga (Ontario, Canada) in the title game.
Kristian Jackson scored twice, once in the second period and again in the third, to erase a 1-0 Mississauga lead and enable Legion to capture the crown.

Branden Campbell, Tristan Ashbrook and Nick Bink collected assists for Marquette, with goaltender Jack Eyler making 17 saves.
"I'm very pleased with what I saw this weekend," Legion head coach Brian Nebel said. "We have ... only four returnees and having only a half-dozen practices ... I think we did pretty well.
"It's a great way to start the season."
Legion needed a goal by Donny Schultz with .02 seconds left in a 2-1 win over the NW Chargers of Illinois in a semifinal game to advance to the title tilt.
Bink also scored for Marquette, with Ashbrook and Jackson drawing assists.
Travis Cameron stopped 18 shots on net for Legion.
The local icers also lost a 3-1 decision to Mississauga, with Ashbrook scoring the lone Legion goal. Bink assisted on the shorthanded marker.
Eyler made 11 saves before leaving the game with an injury and Cameron stopped one in net for Legion.
In Marquette's opening game, it beat the Firewagon Yellowjackets of Illinois, 3-2, behind goals by Alister Henderson, Hunter Doucette and Justin Hendrickson after being down two goals.
Earning assists were Caden Paquette, Spencer DenBeste, Jackson, Chris LeMire and Ashbrook.
Cameron turned aside 12 shots in net for Marquette.
