MARQUETTE, Mich. - Our mother is on her next journey where flowers bloom all the time and watching a softball game with her father. Joanne (Cline) Schwemin, age 77, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, September 22, 2012.

Our mother was the funniest woman, mother, gramma, you could ever ask for. Her family came first all the time. She watched softball more than anyone we knew and also played the game, taking home two state titles in 1951 and 1952, being named MVP in 1952. After her softball career, she married the love of her life, E. Richard, together they overcame life's challenges and raised five children, all of whom played softball to their mother's liking. Our mother loved the outdoors, exploring all the time and always wanting to show us one more plant, flower or overturned rock. Her happiest moments were when all of us were out at camp, enjoying the holidays, and just being together. Our home and camp were always open to everyone and anyone that enjoyed it as much as she did. Her greatest tool for us was laughter. Laughing was our cure all. She took great pride in her heritage. We were forever visiting U.P. lighthouses where her mother's family were keepers. She was a true South Marquetter, always telling stories. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Wyatt, Tyler, Derrick, all of whom play softball. Outings with high school friends was always a delight for her. Our parents loved each other very much, taking care of each other through the difficult times in life, and for that we are forever grateful. For you mom, now we will tell stories and always find laughter.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband, E. Richard; five children, Rick and Lori Schwemin, Peggy Schwemin, Patty "Joey" Schwemin and partner, Shelley Brandow, Mary Schwemin, Lori Schwemin and partner, Janice Peterson; her grandchildren, Tyler and Wyatt Schwemin, and Derrick DePetro. She also leaves behind her in-laws, Robert and Anna Fletcher, Ardell Schwemin, Denny (Roseann) Keller; sisters, Georgia Peterson and Gail Timko; and brother, Tony (Dorothy) Cline; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; her extended family, Leanne "Gator" Touchinski, Jenny Ryan, and her high school friends; and special friend, Margaret (Skip) Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur "Boots" and Leota Cline; brother, Arthur Paul Jr; and sister, Phyllis Meyers.
