SKANDIA, MI. - Elsie E. Ollila, (Erickson/Hyytinen) age 94, of Skandia, entered eternal life Friday evening, September 21, 2012 at her son's home in the loving care of her family.

Born August 27, 1918 in Princeton, a daughter of Anna Lukkarita and John Hyytinen (Erickson), Elsie was raised in Princeton. As a young adult Elsie was a lady ahead of her time with a working career that gave her many wonderful experiences. She was employed with many area physicians where she performed duties as a housekeeper, caregiver and physician's assistant. Elsie was fortunate to have the opportunity to work as an aide in Chicago for Helen Keller. She was proud to have been a Rosie the Riveter, a cultural icon of the United States representing the American Women who worked in factories during World War II.

In 1946 Elsie married John Ollila, who was the love of her life, and they owned & operated the Ollila Family Farm in Skandia. Elsie always maintained her most important role of wife, mother and homemaker. In addition to her family Elsie would always share her time with her extended family by cooking and baking whenever given the opportunity. She had a unique sense of humor and in her spare time she loved gardening and planting flowers.
