MARQUETTE - Unable to find the back of the net, the Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team lost twice Saturday at the Northland Pines Double Dual in Eagle River, Wis.
Coach Matt Tebo's Redmen dropped a 2-0 decision to Ashland (Wis.) before losing to Iron Mountain, 1-0.
'"The first game, it was a lack of offense," Tebo said after his team had fallen to 8-4-3 on the season. "The second game, we had 30 shots. It was just a lack of finishing.
"Iron Mountain played some good defense, but it's a pretty tough way to lose."
Against the Mountaineers, MSHS put 11 shots on goal but couldn't beat goalkeeper Max Frorenza.
Tony Lackey made five saves for the Redmen, but couldn't stop I.M. from scoring the game-winner with 45 seconds left.
"The shot was from 20-25 yards out into the bottom left corner," Tebo said.
"We were dominating and had the (scoring) opportunities, but we didn't finish and paid for it."
Against Ashland, the winners scored in the 14th minute and again eight minutes later.
Lackey made five stops, but MSHS put only three shots on the Ashland goal.
