MARQUETTE - Every Life is Beautiful, a special fundraising dinner sponsored by the Care Clinic, will be Oct. 4 in the Great Lakes Rooms at Northern Michigan University. Seating will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and program from 7 to 9 p.m.
Featured speaker will be Gianna Jessen, pictured above, whose life story inspired the movie "October Baby" (www.giannajessen.com).

Bluesday Tuesday jam at library
MARQUETTE - Bluesday Tuesday will host a live blues jam session at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
Join other blues musicians for a community jam celebrating blues music and culture in the Upper Peninsula. Bring an instruments to share and learn with others at this informal gathering for people interested in playing with other musicians who appreciate blues music.

NCLL to tour log cabin
BIG BAY - The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will tour a hand-crafted log cabin near Big Bay from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Participants will meet at the Berry Events Center east-side parking lot and should bring a folding chair, beverage and camera. Richard Hendricksen, owner and builder of the cabin, will be the presenter.

Fundraiser to aid UPAWS
MARQUETTE - A fundraiser for the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter of Negaunee will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Federated Women's Clubhouse, 104 W. Ridge St. in Marquette.

Cruise will aid MooseWood
MARQUETTE - Superior Odyssey's Coaster II, shown above, will set sail for a 6 to 8 p.m. cruise on Thursday from the Lower Harbor Dock in Marquette. This cruise is a fundraiser to benefit the MooseWood Nature Center, and a requested donation of $50 or more will fund programming.

Pasty fundraiser for Heacox
BIG BAY - A pasty sale is being held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Pasties cost $4 and can be picked up at the Bay Cliff Office, 310 W. Washington St. Marquette.
The purpose of the sale is to raise funds for Monte Heacox, a member of the maintenance staff at Bay Cliff Health Camp, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for cancer. Library offers Money Manners
MARQUETTE - Peter White Public Library is beginning a new non-commercial financial education series called Mind Your Money Manners. Classes will meet at 7 p.m. on alternate Wednesdays beginning Sept. 26 in the Community Room.
The four-part series brings instruction on developing good money habits to help individuals learn easy-to-follow methods for identifying and working through money-related issues, how to set 'smart' goals and how to develop a personal spending plan. Meditation workshop offered
MARQUETTE - A beginning meditation workshop, taught by Melissa Middleton, will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 26 through Oct. 31 at the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.
Registration costs $30 for city residents and $35 for others. The materials fee is $10. Participants should bring a meditation cushion or blanket. Chairs will be available.

Anger alternatives series slated
MARQUETTE - An Alternatives to Anger series will be held in Marquette and Gwinn. The series meets for four sessions, and the fee is $20 per person or couple.
The Gwinn series will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Oct. 2, and the Marquette class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays beginning Oct. 4.
The series includes informative presentations, group discussions and skill-building activities to help learn what triggers anger, calming and de-stressing techniques, problem solving and communication skills and letting go of the past.
