MARQUETTE - Marquette Area Public Schools is hosting a series of public forums beginning tis week to collect community input that will be used in developing a new strategic plan for the district.
The first meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bothwell Middle School cafe. A second is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Sandy Knoll Elementary School library and a third at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 inside the Superior Hills Elementary School media center.
Area residents who want to participate in the forums but are unable to attend can take a four-question online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/3XNMD88.
MAPS is partnering with the Michigan Association of School Boards to develop the comprehensive three- to five-year plan.
According to a written statement from the district and the Marquette school board, the planning process is "designed to produce four to five priority goals to be accomplished over a three- to five-year period. The plan uses data - along with ideas of staff, students and community members - to help the board of education identify priority goals that will help make the district be an even better place for young people."
The board briefly discussed the public forums during its Sept. 10 meeting, encouraging community members to participate in the forums.
"This strategic planning is the opportunity for the community to participate in our plan for the next three to five years,"Trustee Matt Williams said at the meeting. "So, when we have those public forums, I hope people take a moment of their time, or at least try to do the Internet survey if they can't get to the meetings to participate."
