Flag issues cited

September 16, 2012
Bill Domowicz, retired U.S. Air Force, Gwinn , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

(The) commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Marquette (should know that) President Obama issued a proclamation that the U.S. flag would be flown at half staff on Aug. 31 in honor of Neil Armstrong.

Apparently the station decided to disregard this proclamation as the flag was still at full staff at 4 p.m. that day when I passed by.

I believe your station is classified as a military installation and as such the flag should be flown 24/7. The flag has not been raised before 8 a.m. since the station moved to its new location.

If you do not have the necessary lighting to light the flag at night, there a solar powered flag pole lights that can be purchased and attached to the flag pole.

This falls directly on the shoulders of the commanding officers for non-complance.
