Northern Michigan volleyball tops SVSU in five

UNIVERSITY CENTER - Northern Michigan University junior Lina Lopes posted a season-high 18 kills as the Wildcats opened GLIAC play Friday with a 25-17, 16-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-13 victory at Saginaw Valley State.

In addition to her 18 kills, Lopes posted 14 digs, two aces and a block assists. Junior Kalli Herron finished with 14 kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.

Freshman Lisa Studnicka continued her strong nonconference play into GLIAC play with 15 kills and 12 digs.

Junior setter Kellisa Harley had a season-high 50 assists, plus 14 digs. Freshman libero Alex Berger had 13 digs.

NMU (8-2 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) continues GLIAC play today with a 2 p.m. contest at Lake Superior State.
