MARQUETTE - During an investigation into the disappearance of a Marquette man, Marquette Police uncovered an unidentified body at the abandoned building at 231 W. Washington St., Friday afternoon.

Police Chief Mike Angeli has confirmed the body of a white male had been located in the building during a search for 34-year-old Shawn Michael Dollar, who was reported missing on Sept. 13 and who had last been seen on Sept. 8. Angeli said it had not been determined whether the body that was found was connected to Dollar's disappearance.

"We've got what appears to be a deceased person," Angeli said. "That (the search for Dollar) is what lead us in this direction."

Representatives from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab had arrived at around 4 p.m. Friday and began taking pictures of the crime scene.

Detective Capt. Gordon Warchock said Friday evening the investigation was continuing, but that the body did show signs of decomposition.

"It does look like the victim has been there for a period of time," Warchock said, which could indicate the body had been in the building possibly for a week. "There would be decomposition for a person who had been there that long."

As of press time, no positive identification of the body had been made and no cause of death had been determined.

Friends and family of Dollar spent much of the afternoon near the crime scene, waiting for news from officials.
