MARQUETTE - Family and friends of a missing Marquette man were gathering this afternoon in the Marquette Commons, hoping to organize a search that will find the 34-year-old.
"We have to do something," said Jackie Boxer, Shawn Michael Dollar's mother. "We can't just sit here."
According to the Marquette City Police Department, Dollar was reported missing on Sept. 13. He was last seen at approximately 10:20 p.m. Saturday by family and friends as he socialized in the downtown Marquette area.

Police said they believe Dollar's disappearance is unrelated to the Thursday discovery of a body in Wetmore Pond.
The group of roughly 50 people gathered at 12:30 p.m. today and was separated into search parties. Organizers brought fliers with a photo of Dollar in the clothing he was last seen in: a blue plaid shirt, blue jeans and a faded Detroit Tigers baseball cap, though he is not wearing the cap in the photograph. The flier states Dollar is 6 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Before the parties left to begin their search, Jean Whitman-Shelby, a friend of the family, led the group in a short prayer.
"Let's ask God to guide somebody, all of us, to where he is," Whitman-Shelby said, as she choked back tears.
Whitman-Shelby said the search would continue "until we find him. We're not going to stop."
The group welcomed anyone interested in volunteering in the search to stop by the Commons for a flier and a map.
Police request that anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Dollar contact them at 228-0400.
