Marie L. Vadnais

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Marie L. Vadnais, formerly of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2012 at the Eastwood Nursing Center, Negaunee.

A lifelong Marquette resident, Marie was born in Marquette, a daughter of Fredrick and Angela (McCarthy) Wickert. She was a 1943 graduate of the Graveraet High School and later married Clyde Vadnais.

A housewife, she not only raised her own children, but for over 12 years served as a fosterparent to 125 children, working in conjunction with the Children's Aid Society of Michigan. In her leisure, Marie enjoyed knitting, craftwork, and camping. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Children's Aid Society of Michigan.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Paul) Mosier of Marquette; step-daughter, Karen (Norm) Otto of Hampton, VA; sons, Joseph (Jeanne McGahey) Vadnais of Gwinn, Dale (Lynn) Vadnais of Englewood, FL, and Douglas Vadnais of Detroit, and David (Elizabeth) Vadnais of Marquette; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Pfaffle of Marquette; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Vadnais in 1991; a daughter, Shelly Lyons; and a grandson, Kyle Vadnais.

The family will receive friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Monday, September 17, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Ryan Ford will officiate and inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. A reception will follow in St. Peter Cathedral Hall. God bless her always.
