MARQUETTE, Mich. - Dorothy Hope Kleaver, age 93, of 1021 Northland Drive, Marquette, entered eternal life Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Norlite Nursing Center.
Dorothy was born March 18, 1919 in Edmonton, Canada, a daughter of John and Irene (Gray) Lewis. Her family came to the United States in 1923, settling in Chillicothe, Ohio where Dorothy was raised and graduated from high school. On January 11, 1938, she married Otis Kleaver in Newberry and, soon after, he left to serve in the US Army during World War II. Dorothy moved to Marquette where she was employed at Williams Hillside Market. In the early 1950s, she secured a position as office manager with the Holland Furnace Company of Marquette for five years and then began, what would become, an over 20 year employment as office manager with Olson Motors, from where she retired. In 1974, Otis and Dorothy purchased a home on North Shore in Big Bay and were quite active in the Big Bay community for several years, also serving as caretakers at the Big Bay Lighthouse.
Dorothy's hobbies and interests included crocheting, lots of crocheting, for family and friends, and being an avid outdoorswoman. She especially enjoyed deer and small game hunting and was quite a hunter on her own. Additionally, she enjoyed playing the piano, being self-taught at an early age, no doubt from the influence of her musical father.
Survivors include her sons, Otis F. (Josephine) Kleaver of Skandia and John Paul Kleaver of Green Bay, WI; her grandchildren, Debra (John) Kay, Tina (Dave) Bartolovic, Sharon (Leonard) Bodenus, Bonnie (Bill) Baumann, Sherri (Steve) Queen, David, Greg, Gretchen, Scott, and Adrian Kleaver; great-grandchildren, Johnnie Kay and Darlene Kay, Billy Jack, Amy Jo, and Amanda Gauthier, Lenard (Marie) Bodenus, Dustin Baumann, Bobbi Jo Holland, Tammy Jo, Joseph, and Mike Troiber; great great-grandchildren, Jack Gauthier, Anthony and Adrienne Jo Bodenus, Tae Jon, Cameron, Breaon, Deavon Troiber; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Kleaver, Sr in 2008; a son, David Kleaver; a great-grandson, Keyvon Troiber; and her sisters, Vera, Ester, Opel, and Iona.
Honoring Dorothy's request, private family services and entombment will be held at the Northland Chapel Gardens Mausoleum.
