MARQUETTE, Mich. - Bernard J. "Bernie" Tasson, 102, of 1530 W. Ridge Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in the loving care of his son and caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Born July 29, 1910, in Ishpeming, a son of Dominic and Mary Ann (Marianna) (Umbrello) Tasson, Bernie resided in Ishpeming until the age of 17 when he moved to Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Chicago's Schurz High School and then enrolled at the University of Illinois, Champaign campus, in their College of Engineering, and later at Coyne Electrical School.
He received a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Bernie owned and operated his own electrical shop in the Chicago area for several years, while he and his wife also owned a ranch in Hamilton, Montana.
He then was employed by Industrial Molded Products in Palatine, Illinois, and later with Crescent Cardboard in Wheeling, Illinois, where he was a plant engineer. He retired September 24, 1978 in Barrington, Illinois. In 1991, Bernie returned to Ishpeming following the death of his second wife, Florence. Bernie was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Andy (Camille) Tasson of Huntley, IL; stepsons, Michael (Rosalie) McGinley of Camden, NC, Douglas (Janel) McGinley of Albany, GA, Kerry (Karen) McGinley of Reed City, and Bruce (Donna) McGinley of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Kelly Anthony, Lee, Christopher, Richard II, Randall, Stachia, Shawn, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Madeleine McGinley; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Reagan, Carson, James, Brooke, Austin, Thomas, Melissa, Hannah, Katelynn, Randall, Kameron, and Kaylie; sister, Elizabeth Tasson of Ishpeming; nieces, Barbara Tasson, Patricia Tasson, Jean (Jeff) LePage of Ishpeming, Ann Santee of Hackinsack, NJ; nephews, Lloyd, James, Dennis (Alberta), and Skip Tasson of Ishpeming, Fabian (Barbara) Tasson of O'Fallon, Missouri; and Alan (Carolyn) Tasson of Sun City West, Arizona.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by three wives, Virginia (Dyka) Tasson, Florence (Lemley) Tasson, and Elizabeth "Betty" (Kaucic) Tasson; his daughter, Mary Ann (Marianna) Tasson; his grandson, Steve Parlow, three sisters, Mary, Teresa, and Frances Tasson; an infant sister, Elizabeth; and brothers, Dominic, Vito, Salvatore, Joseph, James, and Rocco Tasson.
